Devadiga is a community of Hindu temple musicians hailing from the west coast of Karnataka, India. The community members are now scattered all over India mainly in Mumbai, Bangalore,Mangalore and other cosmopolites.However the major concentration of the population is still in Kanara Districts and many still practice this ancient art in all the temples of this historic area. Devadigas are also known as Moily & Sherigar and many sport these surnames.This site is dedicated to those persons who have contributed to the welfare of this ancient community.

SHRI. VEERAPPA MOILY - Former Chief Minister of Karnataka
M.Veerappa Moily was born on 12th January 1940 and is the son of Sri Thammaiah Moily and Smt. Poovamma. He married Smt. Malathi V. Moily in 1965 and is the proud father of four children Rashmi, Sushma, Hamsa and Harsha.
As a practicing lawyer in the High Court of Karnataka and a Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly for six terms from 1972-1999 from Karkala, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka M. Veerappa Moily has over 30 years of experience in public service, policy-making, governance and politics. Moily has been a Member of the Congress Party since 1968 and is one of the senior-most members of the Congress party in Karnataka.
A number of Awards have been bestowed on him. In the year 2000 he received the first Al-Ameen Sadbhavana Award 2000. The Award Devaraj Urs Prashasthi for the year 2001 was conferred on him in recognition of his contribution to the upliftment of Backward classes and Minorities. He also won the Aryabhatta Award for 2001. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award for 2002 for Samagra Sahitya from Goruru Prathistana was bestowed on him.
