Though our community has still not ‘produced’ an IAS officer, we can boost of many professionals in varied fields. The Medical profession is deemed as noble profession. We all know the achievements and success of distinguished Neurosurgeon Dr.K.V.Devadiga. We have already featured Dr.B.Bhaskar as a starter to our “Personalities Page’. Now I am presenting yet another doctor!.

If youngsters of our community are in search of role models to follow and to be inspired to excel; then I have found an answer in the personality of Dr.Rathnakar M Sherigar.

Born on Jun.1st 1971 in a village named Mala of Karkal Taluk Rathnakar Sherigar quietly studied at Sri.Bhuvanendra College and then selected for Medical Studies at Mysore Medical College, where in he crowned his brilliant academic career by bagging a Rank in the MBBS Examination. (Year 1995). Later he did two years of Post Graduate studies at the prestigious AIIMS and INMAS New Delhi.

The craving for furthering his knowledge backed by his remarkable academic achievements took young Dr.Rathnakar to USA- a dreamland of abundant opportunities for the deserving!  He joined University of Connecticut Medical Center for Diagnostic Radiology residency program and later continued his training in Internal Medicine as well as Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Worcester Medical Center, University of Massachusetts.

At present he is serving as an Asst. professor of Clinical Medicine, University of Virginia School of Medicine and working as Consultant Diagnostic & Interventional Radiologist and Staff Physician at VA Medical Center, Carillon Medical Center, Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem, Virginia, where he performs many minimally invasive procedures including angioplasties. His field of interest is Carotid artery and intracranial artery stent angioplasties for stroke and pain management procedures.

The proud son of Smt.Lalitha and Shri. Gopal Sherigar, Dr.Rathnakar recently married to Reshma.

I have noticed his sincere commitment to the uplifting of our community and have shown keenness in community development programme. I am also proud to state that he and his bother Mr.Krishna Sherigar Mala were one of the first Patrons of our web site DEVADIGA DOT COM. On behalf of all of you I wish Mrs. & Dr.Rathnakar Mala a great married life and all the success in the world.
