Moodbidri, Aug 31: Congress candidate Ratnakar Devadiga was elected president of the town municipality while CPI (M) candidate and ‘beedi’ labourers’ activist Ramani was elected vice-president in the municipal elections held here on Monday August 30.
The reigning municipal administration consisting the coalition of BJP and JD(S) tried helplessly to gain victory in this election but due to calculative planning by the Congress, led the latter to come back to power after nearly two-and-a-half years.
The BJP, eying the top post in municipal body, through its member Harish Kumar, filed a case at deputy commissioner’s court restraining Congressmen Ratnakar Devadiga and P K Thomas from contesting in the municipal elections citing that Ratnakar is having a gainful employment in municipal body and P K Thomas is a building contractor of municipal works. Harish Kumar has ceased to be a member now.
The Congress, in a counter plan, managed to get an interim order from the High Court which caused setbacks to the calculated moves of the coalition. Then, the BJP tried to nominate MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik to contest the elections by attempting to include his name in the electoral under town municipality, despite the fact that Karnik is a resident of Mangalore and his name is included in the electoral rolls there.
District Congress Committee (DCC) vice-president Ivan D’Souza congratulated newly-elected president Ratnakar Devadiga and expressed happiness over regaining the power over the municipal administration after two-and-a-half years. He also acknowledged the efforts of local MLA Abayachandra Jain and party activists in gaining the victory.
Tahsildar Muralidar K was the electioneering officer. Media persons were barred from getting closer to the election venue with strict security provided by town police.
BJP’s Bahubali Prasad contested for president and Prema Salian for vice-president at the municipal elections. JD(S) candidate Krishnaraj Hegde withdrew his nomination at the last minute.
Past president Bhoja Kotian and vice-president Koragappa congratulated newly-elected president and vice-president. JD(S) candidate Shivaraj Rai is already serving as the president of municipal steering committee. It’s significant that the powers are for the first time, in the history of the town municipality, equally shared by leading parties.

Puttur, Aug 22: Relentless pursuit is the most important trait to master any art. Proving the same is Suman R Devadiga, who is growing to become a great tablist excelling in the field of music instrument following in the footsteps of grandfather late Venkatappa Dogra, the first person to Indianize western instrument, saxophone.
The artiste in Suman, son of flautist P Rajaratnam and Bharathi couple flowered due to the environment provided by his renowned musical family. He has been taking training in playing tabla from N V Murthy in Puttur since the age of seven. He has also received special training from tablist of Karwar Chandrakanth Gadkar. This apart, he is also learning mridangam rom Akashvani artiste ghatam vidwan Tiruchi K R Kmar from past three years.
All of 20-year-old, his excellence in the field chosen has made him eligible for scholarship from CCRT from centre and Sangeeta Nataka Academy of the state. He has the distinction of passing the vidwat examination conducted of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Meeraj in the tender of 16 years. He is the final year student of Bachelor of Arts in St Philomena College here.
He is the winner of several competitions. He has won the talavadya section in the Mangalore University level inter-college music festival for consecutive three times. Along with academics, as his profession he has been accompanying various artistes all over the state in tabla including semi-classical and classical programmes. He has a sister, Megha, who too is inclined towards art.
Raghavendra Devadiga is elected as Vice President of Hebri Grama Panchayat - 8/13/2010
A Young & Dynamic, Raghavendra devadiga popularly known as D.G. has been elected in his maidan effort as Vice-President of Hebri Gramapanchayat.
Born on 31/12/1979 to Mr. Surya Devadiga and Rathna .S. Devadiga, he swung into politics at a very young age and was the General Secretary of Hebri Junior College in 2001-02. He has been elected as a member of Grama Panchayat on May 8th 2010 for the first time, and rose to the current position of Vice-President of Hebri Gramapanchayat .
A very close associate of Ex- M.L.A of Karkal Mr.Gopal Bhandari and Mr. Prasanna Ballal A.P.M. Transports Hebri, he has involved in many social activities in Hebri and was instrumental in forming Nagabrahmha Mitra Mandal.
He is the President of Old Student Association of Gandinagar High School and is also the President of Youth Congress in Gandi Nagar Ward.
He is a very good organiser and is active social worker from his young age, says his cousin Mr. Balakrishna working in Dubai.

Mahisasura ….!
The hall was packed…the folks around were in relaxing mode while the children were at their playful best buzzing around.
For a brief moment sudden silence engulfed the audience and the children froze like playtime ‘statues’. …
This excited silence was for the screech of Rakkasa Mahisasura who suddenly appeared in the midst of the audience and took them all by surprise. With a deafening roar the Mahisasura moved ahead step by step towards the stage in his bravura stride and those who were present were dumb stuck at the vibrantly dressed and magnificently carved character straight from the epic Mahabaratha.
Such was the impact of the character along with special surround sound effect that the children who were noisily playing around suddenly fell silent and took shelter with their parents. The audience was completely ‘hypnotized’ to the professionalism of the Acting, the Act & the presentation of this mythological episode– Mahisasura Mardhini.
The loud round of applause signified the appreciation of the audience.
I am sure you have guessed right! The scene now shifts towards the man who enacted such a stunning character in a very befitting manner and won the hearts of the audience and later the visitors to our site.
This man arrived in Dubai in 2004 and in short span of time earned his charismatic position in the cultural milieu of this desert city with a bang.
He is none other than the dynamic young man of our community ...DILIP.
Early Years:
Dilip was born on 5th march 1977 in the temple town of Udupi and is the second son of Mr. Anni Devadiga & Late Mrs. Girija Devadiga.
He completed his schooling in Jain High school & obtained his Diploma in Computer science at SNM Polytechnic Moodabidri.
The accolades & the fame sure did not come easy, Dilip has strenuously trained in Bharatnatyam for 14 years under the teaching & guidance of Master Vittal Shetty, Mangalore. With a proud grin on his face he says “ …of course I was good in my studies, sports and my cultural activities . I have been involved in many stage shows with Dr.M.Mohan Alva too”,
He proudly recalls that he won many prizes at state level dance competitions, held in PPC, Fisheries College & many intercollegiate competitions.
Dilip started his own IT business in Moodbidri and ran it for several years. He tied the knot to Kavita, second daughter of Late Krishna Devadiga and Sulochana in 2001. The couple are blessed with two lovely children, Moksha & Moulik.
His elder Brother Manoj is the owner of MCM and a successful businessman in Moodbidri and an authorized agent for LIC too. Sister in Law Shubha Sahana is the councilor of Moodbidri Muncipality who won in record votes.
Dilip’s Elder Sister Mrs.Mamatha is happily married and living with her husband Mr.Bhanudas, who trades as an IT Manager for Star Wood hotels Group.
DUBAI – Dream city of Millions:
Like many of us who were attracted by the land of golden opportunities, Dilip started his career with Cute Computers Dubai in 2004 as a network Engineer for Emirates group security. Looking for better opportunities, he Joined Al Ghurair hospitality division wherein he worked as an IT manager for Nojoum hotel apartments. As a well-known IT professional, the opportunities came calling and at present he works as an Asst. IT Manager for Nasco Karaoglan Insurance group.
It’s not every day that talent & hard work pays!
However in Dilip’s case it did. He was duly recognized and was nominated as the best employee award for the year 2009-2010 with cash prize of a whopping AED 10,000.
He currently handles Nasco Qatar & Nasco Emirates (AD) IT division too. He is a Specialist in FT servers (fault tolerant) & Data recovery including RAID's.
In the midst of hectic work and the family responsibilities Dilip did what many youngsters won’t do!... Studies!!
Dilip did not rest on his laurels and successfully completed his Microsoft certification ie, MCSE(Microsoft Certified Sytem Engr.) & Cisco (CCNA) (Cisco certified Network Administrator) in 2008. Talk about an All Rounder and a role model for the youngsters of today
