A well known comedy artist who is presently working with the famous Tulu Drama group LAKUMU GROUP, Mr.Chandrahas Kadri was in Dubai as part of the Team to present Twin Tulu plays.

Apart from working for the Mangalore City Corporation he has devoted his time to Tulu dramas since past 15 years. Once he was recognised as a comedy artist, he joined Lakumi group and working for them for last 5 years.

He has been serving the Mangalore City Corporation for the last 24 years and is on the verge of retirement, but still young in heart to act for many more years. He sincerely thanks the officials of corporation who has been very co-operative in granting leave whenever he required.

Born to Kaavuru Naraayana Devadiga and Pavanje Venkappa couple of Mannugudde, Mangalore, Chandrahasa is a simple but with lots of ambitions to be successful in this form of art which is close to his heart and in which he is talented and good at .
Happily settled at native place with wife Ranjani and three children Sapna, Sandesh and Rakesh and has many plans for his children.
Apart from the innumerous shows in India, he has visited Muscat and Dubai for the exclusive show of Lakumi group.

Dharmapal U Devadiga Bags Aryabhata Cultural Award ‘07 - 4/1/2008

Mumbai, Apr 1: Dharmapal U Devadiga, President of Devadiga Sangha, Mumabi, Vice-President of Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti, renowned social worker and distinguished entrepreneur, has bagged ‘Aryabhata Cultural Award ‘07’, instituted by Aryabhata Cultural Organisation, Bangalore, announced the spokesman of constituent authority.
Dharmapal Devadiga has bagged the award for his distinguished social service to the society. Aryabhata Cultural award will be conferred on distinguished personalities for their contributions in freedom struggle, research, education, literature, translation literature, journalism, media, spiritualism, business, medical journalism. Well-known limerick writer Dundiraj too is among the awardees.
The awards will be presented to the distinguished personalities during the glittering function to be organized at Ravindra Kala auditorium, Bangalore at 6.30 pm on Monday April 17, stated press release.

Mumbai, Feb 6: The Media award for the year 2006-07 announced by Kannada Development Authority is awarded to Ms. Jyothi B. Devaadiga, a M.A student of Mumbai University.
Jyothi, who hails from a small town of Bijoor near Byndoor, Karnataka is studying in Mumbai University's Kannada section.
The award was presented at function held at Yavanika in Bangalore recently.
The award comprised of a cash amount of 5,000 Rupees and an appreciation certificate.
The award was presented by Dr. L.S. Sheshagirirao, renowned Kannada writer and the president of 74th Akhila Kannada Saahitya Sammelana, a congregation of kannada literature.

Sharjah, Dec 22: The mega cultural musical event ‘'Family Festival' hosted by Sharjah Karnataka Sangha to celebrate its 5th Anniversary was a great hit as the spectators enjoyed an open carnival atmosphere lit up by flood lights, ethnic hot snacks and a mega cultural show, held in the sprawling greens of Wanderers Club Sharjah.




The scintillating dances, powerful speeches, parade of felicitations, melodious melodies, thought provoking skits; all spiced up to a give a complete masala mix of entertainment which engaged the audience till the end. Versatile artists Kasargod Chinna and melody queen B.R.Chaya performed to their best and must be lauded for their efforts. Amidst all these, in a glittering stage function prestigious ‘Mayura Prashasti 2007 was awarded to B.G.Mohandas, former President of Karnataka Sangha Dubai for his selfless two decade service to the Karnataka Community. Mohandas couple was honoured in a traditional Karnataka style by Patron Mark Dennis, Sarvotham Shetty, Mrs & Mr.Sujay Bendore. Secretary Shantaram Achar read the ‘Sanmana Patra’ & President Prabhakar Ambalthere presented the ‘Mayura Palaka’.





Other invited dignitaries namely Rajyotsava award recipient Shekar Babu Shetty, Journalist Rtn PHF Pundalika Marathe, Gulf’s Yakshagana doyen Chidananda Poojary, Byari Poet Hanif Parliyaar and also Guest performers Kasargod Chinna & B.R.Chaya were felicitated as per Sangha’s tradition and practice. In his presidential address President Ambalthere passionately appealed to all Karnataka Forums in UAE to join hands to force Government of Karnataka to open immediately a Gulf Kannadiga Cell to look in to the problems faced by Non Resident Kannadigas working in Gulf. Earlier, Gen.Secretary Shantaram Achar presented the annual report in his inimitable voice. Rajyostsava Award recipient & President Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi, Sarvotham Shetty, Noted Konkani leader Basti Vaman Shenoy, Business Man Ashok Shetty Dr.Shaym Sundar, Hotelier Praveen Kumar Shetty and S.S.Rao graced the occasion along with the honoured invitees.





The programme was ably coordinated and conducted by Immediate Past President Ganesh Rai, ably assisted by Prashobita Ambalthere, Prabhakar Shenoy and Swarna Sathish Poojary. Prabhakar Shenoy proposed Vote of Thanks. B G Mohandas Nominated for Prestigious 'Mayura Award-07' - 12/10/2007
Media releaseDubai: Karnataka Sangha Sharjah since its inception has been recognising the Kannadiga business men, artists, social workers and literateurs who have served the community sincerly and honourably by presenting ‘Mayura Award’. This annual award, which is one of the major events implemented by the Sangha’s visionary founder Late Sri.Umesh Nanthoor has gained recognition and is being regarded as one of the major awards in the Gulf region.
Acordingly this year, the Executive Committee of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has unanimously nominated Former President of Karnataka Sangha Dubai and Indian Pharmaceutical Forum UAE ; Sri.B.G.Mohandas for ‘Mayura Prashasti 2007’
The Mayura Award will be presented at Sangha’s glittering Anniversary function to be held on Thursady 20th Dec at Sharjah Wonderers Club.
B.G.Mohandas who is popularly known as ‘beeji’ among friends and associates was born in Bijoor and brought up in Udupi. He is a post graduate in Pharmacy from KMC Manipal and served this international University as Asst Professor before migrating to Gulf in 1982. He was an active Jaycee and was the Gen.Secretary of Manipal Jaycees.
Associated with Karnataka Sangha Dubai since its inception, he served as the 3rd President in 1989. Later during the vibrant, colorfull & eventful years of Sangha between1989 to 1999 he also took the responsibilities of Gen.Secretary & Vice President. The major activities Sangha hosted during this period, and large numbers of members in its fold has catpulted the Sangha to glorious heights and since then Sangha is recognised as one of the wellknwon and major community welfare associations of the Emirates. It may be recalled that due to his efforts and persuation the major Kannada Daily Udayavani started the special publication of gulf Kannadigas activities in its Wednesday edition as ‘Gulf Vartha Sanchaya’ in 1989.
He is also one of the founders of UAE Devadiga Forum.
Professionally, till recently he served in Gulf’s well-known Health Care group New Medical Centre as Country Manager – Pharma Divison. During this time B.G.Mohandas served as the President of Indian Pharmaceutical Forum.
For his distinguished service to the profession he was awarded 'Outstanding Alumni' of KMC, Manipal University in 2002.
In his free time, as a hobby he hosts websites with varied interest & topics related to Karnataka and he is well-known as freelance writer too.
Good friend, compassionate, sincere and hard working ‘beeji’, is well known to Gulf Kannadigas as a volunteer who always thinks about the welfare of the Karnataka community in his talks &deeds.

Kundapur:Santosh Kundeshwar wins International photographic Award - 11/27/2007
udayavaniKundapur, Nov 27: An international-level photographic competition was held under the auspices of Kalamarashi Keki Moos recently in Jalgoan in Maharastra in which renowned photographer of the town Santosh Kundeshwar bagged first place in the black and white category.
More than four hundred competitors participated in the event and among them Santosh Kundeshwar stood first in the black and white photography and third in the facial photography.
Santosh Kundeshwar has made the state proud, as he is the only contestant to win the prize among the several competitors.
Santosh Kundeshwar has earlier won several other prizes like certificates of merit from Butterfly foundation of Kerala, from photographic society of India of Mumbai in wildlife photography, from Sagar photo society three times, first and third in Gulf Oil Mumbai track rally photography and the prize by the Shimoga forest department.
Santosh Kundeshwar had the privilege of representing the state in the prestigious photographic camp held in Bandogar, Madhya Pradesh under the auspices of conservation of Tigers at national-level.

Sri.Naveenchandra is the front runner for the Mayor's post - 10/22/2007
SALIAN HARIDASMangalore: Well known youth politician and social worker from Devadiga community Mr. Naveenchandra has been elected as corporator from Kambla ward in the recently held Mangalore City Corporation elections with record votes.

Mr. Naveenchandra got 81% of the total votes polled which is the highest by any candidate in this MCC election. Both Congress and independent candidate fought against him lost their deposit. He contested from BJP for the second time from Kambla ward and will be the corporator for the next 5 years where BJP will rule the MCC for the first time.

Mr.Naveenchandra completed his graduation in commerce from St. Aloysius College and has also completed his M.COM. He is one among the very few second time corporators from the BJP and is the front runner for the prestigious first BJP Mayors post along with yet another senior BJP corporator Mr. Shanker Bhat. If Mr. Naveenchandra misses out to be the Mayor for the first year, there is no doubt that Mangalore will have a Devadiga Mayor in the form of Mr. Naveenchandra during any one of the next 4 years BJP rule of MCC
