ABOUT MYSELF: by beeji in http://www.bgmohandas.com
(January 1st, 2001)
To pen few sentences about one self is a tough task when the content is for something other than to seek a new assignment both professionally and socially!
Being a first son of a tough, self-made and forthright police officer and a humble, gentle and soft-spoken mother has probably created a nervous, polite, shy human in me. Born in Bijoor and brought up in picturesque 'Malenaadu' of Karnataka State, I jumped from school to school in Shimoga Dist, and lastly landed back in the native Dakshina Kannada for high school studies. These happenings due to my father's transfers have made me, brother Vivek, sisters Menaka and Jayanthi, little blurred about our childhood memories and friends. I only wish that those friends of ours in those beautiful places like Malur, Agumbe, Megharavalli, Bhadravathi, Santhebennur remember us when they peep in to their past through their parents eyes to recall their contemporary days with Mr.B.Govindappa, Inspector of Police and Mrs. B.G.Seetha Devi and children.
The life style in erstwhile Dakshina Kannada being distinctly different gave a positive exposure to then adolescent me to develop self-confidence and that helped me to slowly step out of the shell step by step! My father's farsightedness of sacrificing his family life for the future education of his children made us to settle down at Udupi after a brief stint at Byndoor for schooling.
The years when my father was serving and living away from us gave an unexpected freedom to adolescent me. The support of innocent loving mother and audacity of being eldest added arrogance to my manners at home which in turn gave a fillip to a sort of rebellious attitude towards life.
The real transformation happened at a chip-sized city of Manipal. To a lad from a small township in the neighborhood to study at Manipal has been an egoistic ambition and may be was a tool to "show off" to folks and friends! However the sincere truth is that Manipal not only gave me the professional education, it also later provided a platform for self-development and heralded me to the newer concepts of life.
From youngster with introvert nature and infant English of 'yes man' 'no man' to a vibrant, extrovert, successful young man; from a stammering student to an admired Professor… The change in me was phenomenal. My classmates, friends, and teachers and the non-teaching staff are a witness to this episode.
The burning internal craving to serve the "less fortunate" propelled me to join Social organizations. The Jaycees philosophy of self-development appealed to me a lot as unless one is trained as a selfless, confident citizen he cannot develop other human beings!
Manipal, a dream come true; I always salute every one who's involved in my life there, both positively and negatively, as it shaped my life. All of them know whomsoever it may be to whom I am referring to!
Maturity to seek better prospects dawned rather late. I flew (with master's degree, many years of experience in varied fields of pharmacy; socially experienced as a secretary of then premier social organization Manipal Jaycees and with a nick name 'beeji'!) away from India to Gulf instead of yet another dreamland USA. Only regret (I still have) is that my dear classmates who have already settled in United States may have thought otherwise about my ability! (That later reached greater heights after we lost touch with each other)
Serving as a Community Pharmacist in Dubai before serving NMC as a Manager has given a financial strength to carry on with life. And the passion for selfless community service in free time propelled me to serve in coveted position of Secretary, Vice-President and President of Karnataka Sangha Dubai and President of Indian Pharmaceutical Forum. Oh! Now I remember my father's comments that I have been always helpful to outsiders rather than to the family!.
I have strong convictions and feelings about fairness and equality, and I always try to live by my ideals.
Yes. I am married to Yashoda, a science graduate from Mangalore and we are blessed with son Akil and daughter Yashasvi.
Lastly, I thank my parents, brothers & sisters, friends, relatives, teachers, well-wishers, admirers, colleagues, my family and above all God Almighty for everything good in me.
