S S Kudpi – A Tribute

Sommappa Subba Kudpi popularly called as S S Kudpi was born in Kudpu Village near Mangalore on 30th October 1929.  After perusing education till Sr. Intermediate he joined Government Service in Bombay,  in the 1954, later he was transferred to Bangalore in 1956 on Re-Organisation of Karnataka State (Earlier Called as Mysore State).

A sincere and honest person in his duties, had held different positions  till  retirement in  1987 as Sr Asst Director of Fisheries.  Mr. Kudpi was one among the only two Gazetted Officers in the Devadiga Community as per the Census.

As a Marketing Officer in Karnataka State fisheries Development Corporation he was responsible in establishing Sales Outlets all over Karnataka.

S. S. Kudpi was instrumental in founding the Devadiga Sangha in Bangalore along with other prominent Community people.

In recognition to his sincere efforts, and with popular support of the Community members, he was holding the position of General Secretary of the Sangha from the inception till his death in the year 1997.

As General Secretary of the Sangha he has introduced number of welfare scheme for the benefit of the Community.  One such scheme is Scholarship Scheme. He believed that education is the only way of growth to prosperity of Backward Community.  In this direction he introduced  scholarship scheme for pursuing  education  of our Commuinty Members.

His love  for the community, kept him going ahead.  Even though his health was failing, his  tireless effort & persuasion with the government bodies  managed to get Civic Amenity Site at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore for the Sangha.  Finding a permanent place for the Sangha was his dream come true.

S. S Kudpi always felt that there  is a  need to increase the membership of the Sangha and this should be a continuous process.  He use to frequently go on the membership drive.  He kept the membership amount in an affordable level and felt the necessity of it to accommodate all section of people of our community.  He believed that any Sangha is recognized only  by its members strength.

His selfless, dedicated, hardworking, motivating nature & broad smile have always been an inspiration to one and all.
